One futurist that we briefly discussed on our call tonight was Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon. I learned a lot about him from our reading for this week. For starters, I definitely didn’t remember that Amazon started by only selling books before growing to sell many different products and turning into the powerhouse it is today. Not only did they only sell books, but they started in a garage with just a few people. Typical start up story but this one has had a fairy tale ending. One of their biggest successes seems to be the Kindle, which I think is really cool because it pays homage to where they originally started with books. Now Bezos has a few new projects, like making The Washington Post profitable again and figuring how to make drones really work for quick delivery. I can’t wait to see what’s coming next.
