Because I’m a sucker for Mashable, I had to pull from there.
The Power of Public Shaming in Trump’s America.
It’s no secret that people were not pleased with the results of the 2016 election, but it goes a lot deeper than it looks. Ever since Trump was elected, people have gotten more bold in slandering certain individuals. The president is supposed to be the face of America, so when you have someone that has called certain groups of people some very harsh and nasty things, others begin to think that it’s okay and they can get away with it. It’s a disgusting cycle.
The article posted by Mashable outlines that American’s belonging to these certain will not let people this stand. When Pamela Taylor, a Clay County civic, referred to Michelle Obama as an “ape in heels”, you can better believe that people were on it and spreading the news everywhere and until Taylor stepped down, followed by the Clay County Mayor who happened to agree with Taylor.
While people are being more vocal about slandering certain religious groups and minorities since Trump’s presidency, these groups are also letting it be known that they will not stand for this and will continue to protest against this more than evident and increasing discrimination.
I agree. I think it really is just hidden racism that a lot of people fail to acknowledge. It’s sad that we live in a time like this.
Sometimes I think that the public shaming on Facebook and other social networks goes overboard, but in this case the outcry against the public officials who supported calling our First Lady an ape is justified. They deserved to be criticized and forced from office for publicly making and supporting racist remarks. My hope is that people will stay engaged and continue to speak out when they see injustice in our society, whether it comes from their own community or the White House.
I agree with Undria. Hidden racism that can now be exposed. We have taken fifty steps back it seems.
